Falling From the Nest is a reflection on my mother’s battle with Dementia.
The virginal white exterior reflects the innocence that characterizes the disease as the person is rendered child-like in their perceptions and actions. The birds are thoughts and memories…flying off, coming back to roost, flying off again.
The interior represents my feelings as I watch her slip away. The lava flow of blood over volcanic rocks threatens to erupt angrily as I, lone, white bird, watch over her brain in its nest. The brain is glowing with the strong inner self that she used to be.
